A Life Dedicated to Education
Sister Peggy was not just any teacher; she was a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless students throughout her extensive career. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to parents Vincent and Mary (Montgomery) Manners, she attended St. Gabriel High School before pursuing higher education. She proudly earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, followed by a Master of Arts degree in American History from Catholic University in Washington, DC.
Over the course of 52 years, Sister Peggy dedicated herself to the world of education, serving across various locations in Michigan, including Belding, Saint Joseph, Detroit, Dearborn, and Bloomfield Hills. With her warm smile and nurturing spirit, she taught many students the importance of education and compassion. She spent five years as a teacher and seven years as a principal at Dominican High School in Detroit, where she made a significant impact before being appointed as principal at a high school in Bloomfield Hills for nine years.
A Lifelong Commitment to Service
Sister Peggy’s commitment didn’t end there. She worked for three years as a placement director and counselor at Siena Heights College (University), helping students find their paths after education. Later in her career, she spread her wings to Florida, where she served as an ESL tutor and teacher for four years in Boca Raton and the DePorres P.L.A.C.E. Literacy Center in West Palm Beach. Sister Peggy also volunteered as a pastoral worker in Deerfield Beach for over a year, embodying the spirit of service wherever she went.
In 2022, Sister Peggy became a resident of the Dominican Life Center, where she continued to inspire those around her with her devotion and zest for life. She is survived by her loving siblings, Paul Manners and Sharon Bretz, as well as her Adrian Dominican Sisters, who will remember her fondly.

The Adrian community will come together to celebrate Sister Peggy’s remarkable life. Visitation is scheduled for April 14, 2025, from 6:30 to 7:00 pm in the Gathering Space of St. Catherine Chapel. A Funeral Mass is set for April 15, 2025, at 10:30 am in St. Catherine Chapel. Attendees can express their love and condolences during the Prayers of Committal at the Congregation Cemetery.
