Severe Weather Threat Looms for Metro Detroit

Hey there, Metro Detroit! Get ready for some wild weather as we dive into this upcoming week. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, is set to bring unseasonably warm and windy conditions, along with the potential for thunderstorms that could shake things up a bit!

Weekend Recap

But first, let’s look back at the weekend. This past Sunday, temperatures soared to the mid-60s, a wonderful change after those chilly morning lows which dipped down to the 30s and 40s across Southeast Michigan. If you were in Adrian, Howell, Fenton, Lapeer, or Port Huron, you were likely cozied up at a brisk low of around 40 degrees by nightfall. Meanwhile, in places like Livonia, Canton, Dearborn, Troy, Warren, and Shelby Township, those evening lows strolled in a bit higher, around 45 degrees, with gentle breezes blowing from the south-southeast at around 5 mph.

Monday’s Sunny Delight

As Monday rolled in, the forecast looked sunny and bright, with highs reaching into the lower-70s. For those along the Lake Huron shoreline, you’ll see temperatures hover around the mid-60s. A subtle southerly wind will blow through, giving a nice breeze of 6 to 12 mph, with some gusts pushing up to 20 mph. By Monday night, clouds will begin their takeover, leading to lows in the lower to mid-60s—the perfect excuse to grab a cozy blanket!

Brace for Rain and Thunder on Tuesday

Now, here comes the juicier part! Tuesday promises to be *interesting*. Expect to see some showers and possibly even thunderstorms, particularly in the morning. Hold on tight because as we move into the afternoon and early evening, more storms might bubble up ahead of an incoming cold front. Southeast Michigan has been placed under a slight risk for severe thunderstorms (that’s a level two out of five, just for your reference).

On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to jump up to the lower-80s, creating a hot and breezy atmosphere—definitely not a typical late April day! The winds will pick up significantly, blowing in from the southeast at a brisk 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 35 mph. If things get a little chaotic, you could even see damaging winds that could exceed 65 mph and heavy rain.

Watch for Wind Advisories

Heads up, folks! A Wind Advisory is currently in effect through 6:00 PM on Tuesday. As the storms roll in, be prepared for the chance of tree limbs breaking and possible power outages due to these strong winds. On the upside, the tornado threat is assessed to be very low, so while it might get stormy, we’re likely to be safe from twisters!

Midweek Weather Outlook

As we move into Wednesday, expect a lovely day with mostly sunny skies and highs trailing down into the lower to mid-60s. Just when you thought the weather could settle, Thursday comes sneaking in with mostly cloudy skies and a chance of rain showers. Temperatures will remain on the cooler side, reaching into the low to mid-60s. You might notice some mixed showers, especially to the north of Detroit, where we could see a bit of snow.

So, while you’re enjoying your Tuesday morning coffee, keep an eye on the skies and stay tuned to the weather updates as we head toward what promises to be a whirlwind of a day. Stay safe, Metro Detroit!
