News Summary

The Christman Company has made a notable move to a newly restored office space in the iconic Book Tower in Detroit. Expanding from 6,000 to 10,000 square feet, this move showcases the company’s growth and commitment to being at the heart of Detroit’s revitalization. The new office features modern amenities and reflects a dedication to community and collaboration while preserving the historical charm of the building.

Exciting Move for Christman Company in Detroit!

In the heart of Detroit, a buzz is building as the Christman Company steps into their shiny, newly restored office space within the historic Book Tower. After years of thriving in the Fisher Building, this construction giant has traded in their 6,000 square feet for a whopping 10,000 square feet of office delight on the second floor of this iconic structure.

The Big Move

Just three weeks ago, the team made the leap to their new digs, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey. With their workforce in southeast Michigan skyrocketing from 25 to 110 employees over the past decade, the Fisher Building was starting to feel a bit snug. The Christman Company realized it was time for a change, and what a change it is!

Located at 1265 Washington Blvd, the newly renovated Book Tower isn’t just any office space; it symbolizes the city’s ongoing revival and is steeped in rich history. Christman’s senior vice president and general manager for southeast Michigan operations mentioned that their desire has always been to be right in the thick of things, in downtown Detroit.

A Smart Decision

Initially, Christman considered diving into a project of purchasing and restoring a different space but decided that the Book Tower was the perfect fit after their involvement in its restoration with Bedrock. During the years-long renovation, they had already claimed a spot on the second floor, making this transition a natural progression.

This historic building, which Bedrock acquired back in 2015, has received a stunning facelift. The restoration efforts included bringing back the original limestone and masonry façade, replacing over 2,400 windows to be historically accurate, and even converting some office spaces into residential units. Talk about making the past blend beautifully with the present!

What’s Inside?

Besides the architectural charm of the Book Tower, Christman’s new office comes loaded with amenities that are sure to keep the employees happy. The space features a fitness center for keeping spirits high, a flexible co-working space dubbed The Study for collaborative efforts, and a cozy kitchen area known as the “parlor”—a perfect spot for those casual gather-and-grab moments.

As they settle in, the team is looking forward to adding some personal touches, including unique artwork that reflects their culture and mission. Notably, a copper cube displayed in the hallway will serve as a tribute to the hardworking project teams across the region, celebrating their efforts quarterly.

Community Focus

The new office regularly accommodates around 25 employees consisting of estimators, schedulers, quality control specialists, and executive managers. With such a dedicated team in place, Christman has also been busy hosting various industry-related events aimed at fostering connections and enhancing collaboration among staff members.

Office Market Insights

12.6% in the fourth quarter of 2024. However, with the architectural appeal and array of amenities that Book Tower boasts, it’s clear that this historic space is a sought-after destination for businesses looking to thrive.

Bedrock is certainly helping to keep the momentum going, picking up discussions with other potential tenants interested in the remaining office spaces in the Book Tower. The collaboration with Christman has created a win-win scenario, and it looks like the Book Tower will become a vibrant hub in downtown Detroit.

As the Christman Company settles into their remarkable new office environment, there’s a palpable excitement in the air. This move not only signifies new beginnings for the firm but also underscores the continuous revival of Detroit as a bustling center for businesses.
