Mark your calendars, everyone! Metro Detroit is set to dive into the colorful world of comics on Saturday, May 3, 2025. That’s right, it’s Free Comic Book Day and excitement is building as stores and libraries throughout the area prepare for a day full of fun, festivities, and fabulous free comic books!
This isn’t just any ordinary day at the local bookstore or library. The Vault of Midnight locations in both Ann Arbor and Detroit are going all out with special events, offering free comics from various publishers. Picture this: massive tent sales, lively music, quirky cosplay, and a variety of vendors all joining the fun to celebrate the art of comics!
One of the highlights of the day is the chance to grab some free comic books! Whether you’re a kid, a teen, or an adult, there’s a comic waiting for you. Just remember, it’s on a first come, first served basis, so early birds will snag the best goodies. Each person will be limited to one comic, so make sure to choose wisely!
For those who can’t get enough, adults can collect up to three special Free Comic Book Day books and kids can snag three too! If you’re a member of the GOB rewards program, you’re in even luckier—you’ll receive two comics just for being a member! Free comics will be available at the Youth Desk and the Adult and Teen Services Desk throughout the day.
The celebration doesn’t stop at just comics. There are plenty of engaging activities planned to keep everyone entertained. Kids can dive into comic-related crafts and practice their skills in comic drawing. And for families, activities are designed to be suitable for ages 5 and up!
Come ready to show off your superhero spirit! Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite superhero costumes. A variety of themed activities are lined up, including green screen flights for all you aspiring heroes! There are games and competitions, with the chance to vote for the best comic book character—so bring your opinions and your creativity!
Hungry? No worries! Food trucks will be on site to satisfy your cravings, and they’ll be serving up delicious bites to fuel your energy as you explore the event. From 10 AM to noon, enjoy some fun balloon twisting talents, sure to wow the kids!
As if all that wasn’t enough, a community event will be buzzing with exclusive discounts, a chance to meet local comic creators, and various games that will keep the good times rolling. For those dressed in costume, there’s even a chance to win gift cards! So, wear your best outfit and join in on the community spirit.
This Free Comic Book Day promises to be a fantastic event for all ages, filled with comics, crafts, and community engagement. Whether you’re a lifelong comic book fan, a casual reader, or just looking for a fun outing with family, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
