Families and friends gather for iftar at Metro Detroit restaurants, celebrating the spirit of Ramadan.
As Ramadan begins, Metro Detroit restaurants are increasing their hours to accommodate the city’s Muslim community. Establishments like Sukho Thai, Paradise Cafe, and Haraz Coffee House are offering late-night dining options, while the Ramadan Village and other local favorites provide a vibrant atmosphere for iftar meals. Community connections flourish as these venues cater to the needs of diners looking for special experiences during this holy month.
As the Islamic holy month of Ramadan kicks off from February 28 to March 29 this year, many Muslims in Metro Detroit are preparing to fast from sunrise to sunset. During this sacred month, families gather to break their fast with delicious iftar meals after sunset and enjoy pre-dawn suhoor feasts. Thankfully, local restaurants and cafes are stepping up their game by extending their hours to cater to those observing Ramadan.
First up on our list is Sukho Thai in Dearborn Heights, which is rolling out the red carpet for diners this Ramadan. The restaurant opens its doors from noon to 10 p.m., offering an exciting menu that includes sushi, tantalizing chicken satay skewers, mouth-watering Tom Yum soup, and the ever-popular pad thai — perfect for iftar!
Meanwhile, the innovative folks at Paradise Cafe – an Indo fusion establishment – are launching something fresh for the community. They introduce the Ghabga Nights late-night dining experience that operates from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. (with extended hours on weekends). This menu features delectable dishes inspired by the Gulf region, with prices ranging from $11.95 to $39.95. Don’t miss out!
If you’re in the mood for a buzzing atmosphere, make plans to visit the Ramadan Village, previously known as the Ramadan Suhoor Festival. Located at the Canteen at Midtown, the Village operates from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on weekends and showcases a whopping 55 vendors offering a variety of delights to satisfy everyone’s cravings.
In Dearborn, you’ll want to check out Haraz Coffee House, which has ramped up its hours to serve customers from 7 a.m. to midnight during weekdays, stretching to 1 a.m. on Fridays, and offers late-night service over the weekends. This cozy spot quickly becomes a local favorite, especially post-iftar as it attracts many hungry patrons.
For those who love a hearty buffet, Adda in Warren is recognized for its extensive iftar buffet, but remember, reservations are a must! If you’re after something unique, try Amar Pizza in Hamtramck, which smartly blends Bangladeshi, American, and Italian cuisines, available for delivery daily until 11 p.m.
Another local favorite that remains open until the wee hours is Yemen Cafe, serving up authentic Yemeni dishes until 1 a.m. daily, while Jabal Coffee House in West Dearborn keeps the doors open late, usually busy with patrons mingling post-iftar, often until about 2 a.m.
Also, you might want to stop by Kitab Cafe and Bookstore, which has extended its hours during Ramadan to accommodate community needs, fostering a space for togetherness and good conversations. The newly introduced food pop-up called Whisper is great for those late-night cravings, delivering halal sandwiches between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. Now that’s what we call convenience!
It’s heartwarming to see community-focused venues emphasizing shared experiences around food during iftar time. With lots of flavor, warmth, and connection in the air, Ramadan presents an excellent opportunity for reflection and giving back. However, it’s worth noting that the Imam’s Council of Michigan has urged for donations to Gaza instead of celebrations this Eid al-Fitr due to the ongoing conflicts.
As Ramadan wraps up with the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr on April 10, communities in Metro Detroit will celebrate the spirit of giving and connection. We should cherish these precious times filled with delicious food, laughter, and the company of loved ones!
