Detroit was buzzing with excitement this past Saturday night as the Millennium Tour made its highly anticipated second stop at the iconic Little Caesars Arena. Part of a thrilling 24-city run, this concert brought back all the nostalgia of early 2000s hip-hop and R&B with a lineup that was nothing short of impressive.
Headliners for the night included big names like Bow Wow, Omarion, and Trey Songz, alongside a fantastic array of supporting acts such as Plies, Boosie, Ying Yang Twins, and the R&B supergroup RSVP. The stage also welcomed Nivea and a special guest appearance from Rick Ross.
This concert series is all about the hits, and with such a star-studded lineup, there was plenty to keep everyone entertained. The crowd was ready as the show kicked off right on time at 8 p.m.
Nivea opened the night with her 2002 classic “Laundromat,” welcoming the audience into a world of throwback tunes. She set a delightful tone, and excitement surged through the venue as the Ying Yang Twins took the stage. They electrified the crowd with hit after hit, including fan favorites like “Whistle While You Twurk,” “Wait (The Whisper Song),” and “Salt Shaker.” By the time they performed “Get Low,” the crowd was fully engaged, dancing and singing along.
Next up was RSVP, a supergroup featuring Ray J, Sammie, Bobby Valentino, and Pleasure P. Ray J donned a mask, adding an element of intrigue as he serenaded the crowd with “Sexy Can I.” Each member took turns showcasing their talents, with Sammie sweetly delivering his verse from “Kiss Me Thru The Phone.” Pleasure P had the audience rocking with “Did You Wrong,” while Bobby Valentino wowed everyone with an a cappella snippet of “Mrs. Officer.”
Then came Boosie, who wore a necklace that sparkled almost as much as his vibrant performance. He got everyone hyped with tracks like “Wipe Me Down” and “Independent,” leading a rousing sing-along for “Swag Surfin’.” Following Boosie, Plies hit the stage and delivered his smooth hits, including “Bust It Baby” and “Shawty,” before sharing his verse from “Lose My Mind.”
Next, Rick Ross brought out the Maybach vibes with a high-energy set that included smash hits like “Hustlin’” and “B.M.F. (Blowin’ Money Fast).” His performance was short, as he left the audience wanting more.
Young icon Bow Wow lit up the stage with pure energy, gracefully acknowledging his upcoming 38th birthday. He took the audience down memory lane with tracks from his So So Def catalog, including “Fresh Az I’m Iz.” To make it even more special, he invited Detroit emcees Peezy and Icewear Vezzo to join him on stage.
Omarion followed with a polished performance accompanied by six talented dancers. Although some songs left the audience feeling a tad unfamiliar, Omarion’s charisma kept the vibe alive. Closing out the night was none other than Trey Songz, who treated fans to a mix of sensual and upbeat hits, including “Neighbors Know My Name” and “Bottoms Up.” He added a sweet surprise by introducing local artist Skilla Baby to perform a short set.
The concert was orchestrated by the Black Promoters Collective, managing to keep the event lively with minimal breaks of no more than ten minutes between performances.
